Charles Shih is busy completing his final year of the collaborative nursing program at Northern College of Applied Art and Technology. He still makes time to volunteer both on and off campus. After serving two consecutive years as president of the Northern College Student Association – Timmins Campus, Shih has taken up new roles to help Northern students.

Shih is the current student governor for Northern College and he sits on the board of governors as an internal governor for all four college campuses. In addition, he is a sitting member of the policy review board for the college to ensure Northern’s policies reflect their needs.
“Being a student leader has greatly enhanced my college student experience by putting me in touch with a plethora of people from the community and college that I otherwise would never have interacted with,” explained Shih. “The experience of being a student leader has allowed me to mature and grow as an individual; to see there is much more to school besides lectures and homework.”
In addition to his work in student government, Shih is the student representative for the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO) local chapter. His role involves connecting with local chapter members and relaying new and relevant information to nursing students at the college. Shih’s dedication to his college – and his peers – proves he’s a worthy recipient of CSA’s Leadership Scholarship.
“Winning this award means a lot because it is a way of being recognized for all the hard work and extra hours I have put in the past few years to make Northern a more welcoming and exciting place for students to attend,” said Shih.
On behalf of CSA, we congratulate Charles on his win.
