Student Spotlight: Brittany Smith

Brittany Smith attends Georgian College in Orillia. She is currently in her fourth year of study in the Bachelor of Human Services (Police Studies) program. Smith has been actively engaged in the college community during her time at Georgian.

In Smith’s first year, she met a friend and mentor who introduced her to the Students’ Administrative Council (SAC), now known as the Georgian College Students’ Association (GCSA). Learning about SAC encouraged Smith to get involved with the on-campus organization. After volunteering at every GCSA event she could, Smith realized her passion for student life. Inspired, she ran for a vice president position – and was successful – in the GCSA elections. The following year Smith ran for President of the Council and was once again successful in the election process.

“Being a student leader has enhanced my college experience in many ways,” Smith said. “I have had the opportunity to meet and develop friendships and relationships with various members of the college, including senior staff, advisors, professors, and students. I would say that being a student leader has made my college experience outside of the class.”

Though her presidential term is over, Smith currently represents over 10,000 full-time students through her elected position on the Georgian College Board of Governors. She is also the student representative on the Board of the Strategic Planning Committee and the Advancement Committee.

While remaining an active student leader on her campus, Smith has also maintained her excellent academic standing and a part-time on-campus job.

“Winning this award means a lot to me. It is an amazing scholarship, in my eyes, for the students by the students,” Smith said. “Receiving this scholarship on behalf of Georgian College means a great deal to me.”

CSA congratulates Brittany Smith on being awarded the 2016 CSA Leadership Scholarship at Georgian College.
