College Student Alliance awards are distributed annually at our May Changeover Conference Awards Gala. The recipients of these awards are selected by CSA’s membership. Help us celebrate the deserving recipients of the 2016 awards:
2015-16 Niagara Student Administrative Council accepting the 2016 Landmark Award.
Landmark Award – Niagara College Student Administrative Council The Landmark Award is given to a student association for their significant contribution and efforts on behalf of college and college/university students, and in support of College Student Alliance initiatives, on their campus and across the province of Ontario.
From the membership:
“Niagara SAC’s initiatives during YUP week were phenomenal. They installed a permanent yellow bench visible from most rooms in the school in the middle of their courtyard. This constant reminder has raised mental health awareness greatly on campus. They also established a wall of yellow, where students could put words of encouragement and kindness for others to take. They also have a great Rise and Shine Breakfast program giving out breakfast to hundreds of students twice a week.“
Rhaili Champaigne (center) accepting the 2016 Advocate Award.
Advocate Award – Rhaili Champaigne, Cambrian College Students’ Administrative Council The Advocate Award is given to a student leader for their significant advocacy efforts on issues affecting college and college/university students. This student’s efforts have furthered the advocacy initiatives of College Student Alliance on their campus and within their region of Ontario.
From the membership:
“Rhaili is a huge supporter of CSA and their advocacy efforts. She is always telling students what is currently going on and what CSA is working toward. As Cambrian SAC president, she went to the advocacy workshop this fall and came back with very positive feedback. She spoke with many news and radio reporters to credit CSA and their advocacy initiatives. Rhaili deserves the 2016 Advocacy Award.“
Deepika Gangwani (centre) accepting the 2016 Leadership Award.
Leadership Award – Deepika Gangwani, Centennial College Student Association Inc. The Leadership Award is given to a student leader for their significant leadership efforts on issues affecting college and college/university students. This student’s efforts have furthered the leadership initiatives of College Student Alliance on their campus and within their region of Ontario.
From the membership:
“Deepika stands out as one of the most involved and engaged leaders who is truly focused on collaboratively working with colleagues to enhance the student experience. Deepika has held many formal positions on campus: Vice-President for Morningside CCSAI (2013/14); President of the CCSAI (2014/16); and Student Board of Governor Centennial College (2013/15). Further, she extended her involvement and contributions to the student leadership landscape and was elected Central Director for College Student Alliance (2014/15). It is not surprising that Deepika’s passion led the CCSAI to receive the President’s Team Spirit Team Award in August 2015. At the Annual General Meeting of the CCSAI in October 2014, Deepika, working from a challenging history where CCSAI Board members were not cohesive and student-centred, did something different. She composed a CCSAI Board pledge – a statement of commitment to excellent student-centred outcomes through ethical and collaborative engagement.“
Miranda Underwood (right) accepting the first annual Board Excellence Award.
Board Excellence Award – Miranda Underwood, St. Clair Student Representative Council The Board Excellence Award is received by a College Student Alliance board member for their significant contribution to CSA’s membership. This individual demonstrates the best qualities of leadership; they are knowledgeable, available and helpful. This award is selected by the membership. This award is sponsored by Studio Nostalgia.
From the membership:
“I believe that Miranda has done by far more than what could ever be expected from a CSA Director this year. She has been the first to volunteer for opportunities, she has actively engaged the membership, and she has been a voice of reason among the Board this year. I believe Miranda has done a great job advocated both internally and externally for our membership and has represented our organization greatly through a number of differently opportunities.”
Congratulations!
